Blessed Are The Peacemakers
As we approach Remembrance Day —at 11 a.m. on November 11th—we take time together to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by so many and the profound impact on countless families affected by wars and armed conflicts. As followers of Christ, we deeply understand the significance of sacrifice and honouring those who have given their lives for others.
Jesus didn’t simply say, “Blessed are those who mourn”; rather, He declared, “Blessed are the peacemakers”—those who are actively committed to the pursuit of peace. At our school, we are dedicated to teaching, learning, and actively embodying being ‘PeaceWise.’ Conflict is something we can expect to encounter—sometimes even daily. We may be offended by others, we may unintentionally hurt others, but we are called to navigate these moments with a heart for restoration and peace.
At the heart of our faith is the spirit of sacrifice, modelled perfectly in Christ. As 1 John 3:16 reminds us, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” While this will not usually mean giving up our lives, it certainly calls us to extend grace when we are wronged, and to offer forgiveness even when it feels challenging.
So, as we acknowledge Remembrance Day, may it also serve as a daily invitation to reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice. As we live out the peace that Jesus models for us, let’s embody His courage and compassion and bring His hope into our world. May our actions and words inspire one another as we are guided by His example. We are called to be peacemakers.
