Celebrating Christlike Character

Newsletter | Toolern Vale Update

This week in Chapel, we celebrated students who were presented with Christlike Character awards – these are awarded once a term, and they recognise actions and traits that remind us of how Jesus lived and treated others. The character traits that were celebrated with our students this term were for kindness, creativity, gentleness, joy, obedience and perseverance.

At Melton Christian College, being Christlike is at the heart of our mission and vision. Our goal is to continually reflect on who Jesus is and strive to mirror His love and compassion in our interactions and growth as a community. I often find inspiration in the stories from the Bible, which guide us on how to love others with a love like His. Jesus stood out because He was radically different—He healed the sick with a touch when others would not approach, dined with those who were marginalised, and showed kindness to those whom society had rejected. He made children feel valued by spending time with them and embraced all people with respect and love.

We will never be perfect like Jesus. But it is so important for us to be persistent in striving always to be more like Him and to love more like Him. Our school community is different – some might say we are radical. We must welcome others without judgement. We must be kind to others even when we don’t agree with them. We must be gentle and compassionate – caring for people even when we are tired and don’t feel like it. We must always be respectful of each other – despite our differences. This is not always easy – but it is what makes our school special and unique, and I am grateful to each of you for being here and partnering with us.
