Finding Nemo – A Lesson from the Bible

Newsletter | Primary Update

Finding Nemo is a story about a father fish named Marlin, who goes on a big adventure to find his missing son, Nemo. This story can teach us some important lessons that are found in the Bible.

A Father’s Love:
Just like Marlin loves Nemo and does everything he can to bring him back home, the Bible tells us that God loves us very much. He watches over us and keeps us safe, just like a good father does. Psalm 121:7-8 tells us, “The Lord will keep you from all harm – He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”

Helping Each Other:
On his journey, Marlin meets different sea creatures who help him. This reminds us that it’s important to help one another, just like the Bible says. We are stronger when we work together. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us that, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour: if either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”

Trusting and Not Giving Up:
Marlin learns to trust others and not to give up, even when things get tough. This is like how the Bible teaches us to trust in God and keep going, even when we’re scared or don’t know what will happen next. Dory’s advice to “Just keep swimming” is a way of saying, “Don’t give up!” Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us to, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Saying Sorry and Forgiving:
Nemo disobeys his dad and ends up in trouble, but Marlin forgives him when they’re reunited. This shows us the importance of saying sorry and forgiving others, just like in the story of the prodigal son in the Bible. Read more about this amazing story of forgiveness in Luke 15:11-32.

Caring for God’s World:
The movie shows us a beautiful underwater world, reminding us of how amazing God’s creation is. The Bible tells us to take care of the world around us and be good stewards of what God has made. Genesis 1:28 gives us clear instructions to follow, “God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.’”

Join us for the show! We invite you to come and watch our Year 3 to 6 children perform the mini-musical, Finding Nemo Kids. It’s a wonderful show that’s not only fun and full of adventure, but it also has important lessons that connect with what we learn from the Bible. This is a wonderful community event that reminds us of how God’s love is all around us. We hope to see you there.
