Forty Years of Christian Schooling in Melton
Welcome back to school… and a special welcome to our new families joining us for the first time.
As you are probably aware, this year is the fortieth year that Melton Christian College has been serving families by teaching their children. How wonderful!
For this school, FORTY years looks like this…
F- Forty years of Faith in action. Since the very beginnings of this school, the Christian Faith has been the core, the foundation and the direction that has guided every part of what we have done. It is still like that today. This school has changed and grown; but thankfully, it has not grown away from its Christian foundations. Faith is central to Melton Christian College. Faith means following the teachings of Jesus. Jesus’ teachings were clear, He taught selflessness, generosity, humility, equality, and His sacrifice demonstrates to us that a life of selfless sacrifice is not only wise, but honourable.
O- Outstanding outcomes have been the aim of our school for forty years. ‘Do your best’ is a theme in most schools, and in most families. Parents and teachers everywhere want their children to do their best. At Melton Christian College, our core value of Excellence guides us. And it means that to be part of the school community requires that we do our best. We want our outstanding teachers working with our outstanding students and therefore reaching outstanding outcomes.
R- Respect has been central here for the whole time. And sure, sometimes there are misunderstandings about Respect. It can be misinterpreted as “You’d better respect me!”. But at Melton Christian College we say: Respect everyone. Everyone, every single person, no matter what their gifts or abilities is made in the image of God and is one of God’s precious children. So respect must go in all directions, three hundred and sixty degree respect.
T- Trying your best has been our underlying strength for forty years. And the wonderful thing about that each individual person’s best is the goal. We compete, against our own personal best. Sure, some people are great at maths. Some people are great at English and other languages. Some people are gifted in the areas of sport, or science, or digital technologies. Regardless of where our gifts lie, trying our own best is a great approach to life and learning.
Y- Yes we can. This has been a much repeated statement that has got the school to where it is today. So often attitudes of the mind determine possibilities. People who think they can, can. People who think they can’t … well, they are right too; if they think they can’t, they can’t. But they can’t, not because hard things are impossible. They can’t because they have convinced themselves that they can’t. Mindsets matter, and at Melton Christian College, for forty years of schooling the mindset has been positive: Yes we can. And so we can, and we will, and that means the future is exciting.
Welcome to the new year. Welcome to our school’s fortieth year. Let’s partner together: parents and staff, for the good of our children’s learning.
