Guiding Their Paths

Newsletter | Primary Update

It brings us such joy to invite you to join us for Chapel on the days when your child is either presenting the message or receiving an award. We’re always delighted when you can share in these moments, and we know your child feels immense happiness seeing you there to celebrate their special time on stage.

If you’ve attended a Primary Chapel session, you might have noticed that the message often centres around the doing verse for the week. Several years ago, we intentionally renamed these from ‘memory’ verses to ‘doing’ verses, because while it’s one thing to remember something, it’s another to live it out. You’ll see these doing verses in your child’s diary each week, and they’re also proudly displayed in classrooms by our homeroom teachers, helping our children to see and hear this doing verse daily.

This week’s doing verse is:

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6

This verse is both a challenge and a gift to us all. As adults in the lives of these precious children, we have the profound responsibility of guiding them on the right path. At MCC, our staff steps into this journey after you, but it’s one you began from the moment your child was born. Some days, this journey feels smooth, while on others, it may be more challenging. We want to nurture qualities like resilience, empathy, care, discernment, and love in our children now, with the hope that they will carry these values into adulthood, never turning away from them. As a Christian school, we have an even deeper calling—to foster their walk with God from a young age and help them build a lasting relationship with Him. Our heartfelt hope is that they continue to seek Him and serve Him as they grow.

Last week in Chapel, we had the privilege of thanking two of our Year 12 students—Mason Hobbs and Sean Smith. Both Mason and Sean joined MCC during their early primary years and are now preparing to graduate. A few months ago, they came to me with an idea to build a sandpit for the primary students, wanting to create something that our children would enjoy using for years to come. They were given the go-ahead, and their hard work paid off—our students love it! Just the other day, we saw 17 children all playing happily in the new sandpit. Mason and Sean’s act of service is a beautiful example of this week’s doing verse brought to life, showing our younger students what it looks like to give back.

Let us remember that every word, action, response, and conversation we have with our children teaches them something as they grow. What kind of people do we hope they will become by the time they graduate from MCC? What do you want to see in your children as they reach their teenage years, their 20s, 30s, and beyond?

May God bless you as you continue on this important journey of guiding your child. We’re honoured to walk alongside you.
