Nurturing Peace

Newsletter | Toolern Vale Update

During the school day I will sometimes overhear conversations between students that sound something like this:

Student A: “I feel sad because……”

Student B: “I feel sad because……”

Student A: “I am sorry for……”

Student B: “I am sorry for…….”

These conversations are so lovely to hear, as they show me how beautifully our students are learning about conflict resolution and owning their part in misunderstandings. The common language used by our staff and students is so helpful in making sure our whole community is able to seek peace when conflict arises – this is something special and unique. Conflict is part of life – learning how to walk through it in a healthy and peaceful way is what we teach our children.

At MCC, we use a restorative approach to conflict resolution called ‘PeaceWise.’ All of our staff are trained in this method, which focuses on practical, hope-filled principles. This approach helps our children develop healthy, strong relationships with one another, equipping them with valuable skills for life.

Our beautiful school community is a place that we love and feel so privileged to be a part of. It is special to support you as families and to walk alongside you as your children grow and develop into young people we pray will pursue a life filled with hope and peace. Learning is a life-long journey. Our College mission statement says, ‘Our purpose is, as a learning community under Christ, to excel in care, nurture, welcome and belonging. This will always continue to define our success, and to improve student learning outcomes in all realms; the whole child.’ At MCC, we believe in teaching and learning both inside and outside the classroom. Our goal is to nurture and develop these precious lifelong learners as they grow.
