Press Toward the Goal
As I sit to write, it is the morning after the Year 12 Valedictory Dinner. With my own son graduating, and he, being the last of my children finishing at MCC, I am acutely aware that the ending of one season is simply the beginning of another. As we draw towards the conclusion of another year, I encourage us all to dig deep and press forward, creating in this year, a firm and good foundation on which to build the next.
Paul, one of the most prolific writers in the Bible says it like this: ‘I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14 NAB)
Just this past weekend, I was privileged to see our Matildas, the Australian women’s soccer team, play. I was amazed and enjoyed it immensely. They had a compelling focus towards the goal. It was relentless, consistent and inspiring. They would pick themselves up after falling, encourage each other, be kind to their opponents, show incredible stamina and never stopped pressing forward. I found myself on my feet cheering each additional goal towards their ultimate victory along with 22,000 others.
Let’s be a team that does the same in this final quarter of the school year. Pick ourselves up when needed, encourage each other, be kind to any opponents, show incredible stamina, and never stop pressing forward, with a compelling focus on the future. So that, at the end of 2022, we can stand on a solid and good foundation, to embrace all that 2023 will bring our way.
