A Moment that Matters

Newsletter | Well-Being

This Sunday, the 8th of May is ‘Mother’s Day’, and we would like to take a moment to honour the influential women in all the young lives that call MCC, ‘their College’. As I look around the campus, from reception to the woodwork room, to the cleaners, and the canteen, and of course in the classroom, I see an incredible array of amazing, creative, capable, resourceful, strong, fierce, courageous, courteous, kind, hardworking, and humble, females that provide encouragement and example to our kids.

To the mothers, godmothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, sisters, aunts, mentors, teachers, and friends, we say a huge thank you, for turning up, pouring out, not looking down and not giving up.

Mumming (now I am creating words), is possibly the hardest and sometimes scariest thing I do, but no doubt one of the most important. This past week in my connect group, we came across the scripture in the book of Luke (chapter 1, verse 30), where the angel reassured Mary when she became aware she was to become the mother of Jesus saying, “Do not yield to your fear, Mary, for the Lord has found delight in you and has chosen to surprise you with a wonderful gift”

May we all find encouragement in these words along with Mary, as we juggle our fears, our flaws and even our failures. Finally as we take stock, look for and enjoy those wonderful gifts around us that we are called to lead by example. Whether you bear the title and task of Mum, or Mentor, we honour you. And those that have gone before us and those that live on in our heart, we take time to remember you.
