Building Lasting Connections
For me, one of the greatest joys of working in a school is the opportunity to build real, lasting connections with students. Whether it’s a friendly conversation at the shops with a former student or a cheerful wave and chat with a current one, these moments are reminders of how special our community is. It’s a privilege to be part of this work — not just in the classroom, but beyond the school gates as well.
At Melton Christian College, we place a strong focus on connection and community. Each year, I make it a personal goal to learn the names of all our new students as quickly as I can. For us, it’s more than just being polite — it’s about making each child feel seen, valued, and known. There’s something powerful in hearing your name, in feeling recognised. It’s the first step in building trust and creating a sense of belonging.
Our staff are deeply committed to getting to know your child and they take this responsibility seriously. Mornings begin with time set aside for students to settle in, share stories, and connect with their teachers and classmates. This time gives teachers the opportunity to casually check in with their students and ensure each one feels seen and acknowledged. It’s a simple but important practice, and one that is effective in creating a safe and welcoming environment where learning can thrive.
We also take time to understand who your child is outside of their schoolwork — what they enjoy doing, what matters to them, and who they are as individuals. This deeper understanding helps us support and teach each student more effectively. We understand and appreciate that each child is uniquely created with their own strengths and talents, and it’s a joy to walk alongside them as they grow and discover their gifts.
At MCC, we believe that strong relationships are at the heart of what we do. When students feel connected, they’re more confident, more engaged, and better prepared to learn. Thank you for trusting us with your children. It’s an honour to walk alongside them — and you — on this journey.
