Creating Healthy Habits

Newsletter | Secondary Update

As we approach the end of Term Two for Secondary students, it’s been a busy time with exams, practice exams, and other assessments. These opportunities are important for understanding student progress and identifying areas for improvement. Students completing a Unit 3 or 4 subject in VCE have also participated in the GAT (General Achievement Task).

While this season can be challenging due to the pressures of study and deadlines, students are encouraged to create a study plan, seek help from their teachers, and do their best.

Michael Carr Gregg, an Australian adolescent psychologist, in his book Surviving Year 12, offers a couple of helpful tips. He states that a good amount of sleep per night “not only nourishes and restores our brains but also consolidates learning and memory formation” and that “if you can’t change something, change the way you think about it”. While this book is aimed at Year 12 students, these tips are valuable for all students in Secondary school.

Teachers are working hard to review assessments, curriculum and to help individuals improve their outcomes. These experiences build habits that students will need for their VCE or for any career pathway they choose.

Parents will soon receive their child’s report on the school’s Parent Portal. I encourage you to read it with your child, discuss their progress, and ideas for semester two. If you have any questions, subject teachers are available to help you too.

As parents and staff, we all want the best for students across years 7–12. Each child is wonderfully and uniquely made by God, with their own strengths and interests. Thank you for supporting your child’s learning, and we trust this semester will finish well, before a well-deserved break.
