Distance Education, but Close as Ever

Newsletter | Principal's Message

The news is out there that Melton Christian College has an Online Campus.

Online classrooms look a bit different from our traditional on-site classrooms. Our online students are in their homes, at their study desk, or the dining table. That’s different, but our school is our school no matter where the students study.

I feel confident saying that, because even in our online learning setting, our Core Values are core. Community, Christ-centredness, Excellence, Passion for Teaching and Learning, and Respect define our identity. We are who we are. Our school is what our school is, wherever it is.

Mr Bendall and the teachers intentionally create community in the Online Campus. Lessons are live, real-time, synchronous, and students chat-connect with teachers and each other. No matter where our students are around Australia, they are in our community.

In our online classrooms, as in our on-site classrooms, Christ and his teachings are central. And it is not just prayer and devotions. In everyday lessons through everyday learning, students are reminded they are part of God’s bigger story.

Online staff and students value excellence. Teachers endorse and support students’ personal organisation, taking on responsibility, setting realistic goals by giving clear guidance and helpful feedback.

Passion for learning is encouraged through engaging lessons and creativity. Students explore new ideas while building independence and confidence in how they learn.

And of course, respect undergirds every interaction. Respect in all directions, for everyone. The expectations are clear and people listen to one another. They communicate kindly and value other’s perspectives.

Online learning is digital, online purpose is personal. Our Online campus is nurturing young people who are connected, capable, and grounded in good sense. Our Online Campus is our school, and we know this because our Core Values are at the core.
