Finishing Well and Starting on the Right Foot

Newsletter | Teaching and Learning

As the year rapidly comes to close, it is sometimes easy to relax, thinking that the work has already been done. However, as we finish the school year and head into the time we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the writer of Hebrews encourages us to “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” (Hebrews 12: 1b-2a) It is important that we finish 2022 well and do what we need to prepare for 2023 in the best way possible.

Our Year 12s completed their final exams in October and November, bringing to the end this season of their life. We congratulate them all for their hard work and recognise the things they have accomplished throughout their time here at Melton Christian College. I have witnessed many students finishing their schooling well. The success they have achieved looks different for each of our students. For some, success looked like working hard to complete an unscored VCE to enable them to enter their chosen pathway. For others, they have worked hard to do their best in all their assessments and are patiently waiting for their final results, in the hopes of getting into their chosen course. Other students have achieved success through being our last group of students to receive their VCAL certificate and look forward to continuing their vocational pathway through further study or in the workplace; and some students success looked like completing their exams, passing their VCE and looking forward to getting into the workplace. We look forward to celebrating each student’s success at our Year 12 Graduation and Secondary Awards Night on Wednesday 7th December.

Our Year 7s to 11s completed their exams in weeks 7 and 8. These exams were an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the content they have studied this year, what they have retained and what they can recall under exam conditions. These skills are extremely important for students who are planning on applying for university in the future. We encourage all our students to take the time to reflect on their exam performance and look for ways to improve in the future, through regular targeted revision of the content they are learning.

In week 9, our 2023 Year 11 and 12 students (including many of our Year 10s who are accelerating into a VCE subject next year) completed their QuickStart program. This program is an opportunity for students and teachers to actively build the learning communities that will help them achieve their best in 2023, focus on the requirements of their subjects, and make a head start on the content for their subjects for next year. Our Year 7-10 students will get the opportunity to find out who their classmates and some of their teachers will be in 2023 on the Secondary Orientation Day on Tuesday 6th of December.

We encourage all our students to finish well, working with their teachers to get the most out of the last few days at school this year and preparing for all that 2023 will bring.
