Growing with Purpose
‘A life devoted to things is a dead life, a stump; a God-shaped life is a flourishing tree.’ This quote is a proverb from our Christian Bible.
The image it creates in my mind is one that aligns beautifully with our ‘seed to tree’ analogy of what we are doing here at MCC. We have our youngest students beginning their journey with us as a small seed, already filled with their complete and unique DNA, ready to be nurtured, watered, and to grow into all that God has planned for them.
As we near the Christmas season, we are encouraging our community to be mindful of the significance of the meaning of this time for us as Christ followers. Many of us will give and receive gifts throughout this season and that is such a lovely thing to do – to share blessings and to be generous with our loved ones. But for us, this season is not centred around the material ‘things’ that we are giving and receiving. Our focus is on the birth of Jesus – our Saviour and hope for humanity. Christmas is a time of joy and celebration, a reminder of peace, love and grace as we share time with the special people in our lives.
We remind our students that they are created in the image of God as unique and special masterpieces, growing and flourishing into the potential they have been created for. They are being transformed daily from seeds to flourishing trees – growing through their mistakes and successes and finding their purpose and place in this world. How wonderful to be able to work together to water and nurture our precious little ones as they develop and bloom.
