Mr Gleeson – An Example of Jesus to Our Little Ones
Last Friday, we had the joy of celebrating Mr Gleeson’s 60th birthday as a community. While learning is paramount to our staff and students—illustrated by children eagerly waiting at the gate on Monday morning, exclaiming, “Let us in! We want to learn!”—on Friday, Mr. Gleeson’s birthday took centre stage. (I say this with a touch of humour!) Often, we think of learning as confined to subjects like English, Maths, or Science, but our children learn invaluable lessons by observing Mr Gleeson.
Here are some examples of what can be learned from him:
- How to serve others
- How to be a good listener
- Keeping our school clean by picking up rubbish
- Taking the time to say hello
- Smiling warmly
- Spending time daily reading the Bible
- Being calm
- Speaking quietly
- Being respectful
- And more…
Joy. Peace. Patience. Kindness. Attentiveness. Faith. Humility. These are just a few of the many Christlike character traits that Mr Gleeson embodies. Our children strive to consistently demonstrate these traits to earn a Christlike Character Award at the end of each term. Thankfully, we have a principal who exemplifies Jesus’ character every day.
Let’s all strive to be like Jesus. Let’s learn from Him, just as Mr Gleeson does. Let’s love, respect, and care for each other. What an amazing community we belong to.
Take a moment to reflect on this beautiful scripture from Ephesians 5:1-2:
“Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behaviour from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that.” (The Message).
