Our Learning Has Layers

Newsletter | Well-Being

As we come to the end of the first semester of 2022, I am eagerly looking forward to the long-awaited performance of Shrek the Musical JR. here at Melton Christian College. I am reminded of the famous quote from Shrek himself, “Ogres are like onions…We both have layers”, and the same could be said of our learning, this semester at MCC. I have watched the many layers of challenge and seasonal sickness, layered beautifully with consistency, creativity and care that have made this term and year so far, the stabilising success it has been.

I love the reassuring promise of Romans 8:28 in the Bible, that God works for our good “in all things”. This is a layer that thankfully, we continue to see outworked every day.

In a time, across the education sector, when shortages and challenges have been a constant, our school’s atmosphere has continued to gain stability, strength and momentum.  Our team have showed up and served with determination. They have covered, supported and encouraged each other, and you, as parents have supported the steadying work of the staff.  As a result, I have been incredibly inspired by our students’ accelerated recovery in wellbeing, resilience and ‘settledness.’

What we have is unique and worth taking a moment to celebrate. Therefore, as we close another term, thankfully completely onsite, I encourage us all to do ourselves a favour. Let’s purchase a ticket to the show that has been a long time coming and celebrate the layers of hard work, grit and determination of students and staff, that have not given up but instead have shown up and grown up through some trying times. Then, ready ourselves for the next push towards making 2022 a great year to remember.
