Partnering to Help Our Children Grow
At Melton Christian College, we deeply value the partnership between home and school. One of the more challenging — yet important — parts of this partnership is walking alongside students as they learn from poor behaviour choices.
We understand that hearing your child has behaved inappropriately can bring up strong feelings — surprise, disappointment, anger or concern. Please know that when we contact you, it’s not because we enjoy delivering difficult news. We do it because we care about your child’s growth and want to work with you to help them reflect and improve.
These moments are learning opportunities. When a child is guided to understand why a choice was wrong and how to respond better next time, they grow in character. Avoiding these lessons, though tempting at times, can be harmful in the long run. Children need to build resilience, take ownership of their actions, and learn to navigate challenges — skills that are vital for adult life.
Our teachers are passionate about teaching and learning and these conversations are not something they look forward to either. They do it because they are committed to shaping the whole child — academically, socially, and spiritually. This reflects our College Core Values of Respect, Excellence, Community, and being Christ-centred in all we do.
We also want to protect the learning of every student in the classroom. Learning cannot be regularly disrupted by the behaviour of others, so early communication and shared responsibility are key. Most parents appreciate being informed — it helps them support their child in meaningful ways, and it supports our teachers so that teaching and learning can continue to be the key focus of our teachers.
Hebrews 12:11 reminds us: “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” These moments might be uncomfortable, but they’re necessary — and they can bear great fruit when handled in partnership, with grace and truth.
Thank you for working with us to help every child grow into the responsible, resilient, and respectful young person God has created them to be.
