Coming to teach at MCC has been a wonderful new chapter in my life and I thank God that He has given me this opportunity to be a part of the incredible MCC community. I am privileged to be one of the Year 5 homeroom teachers (shout out to 5C!) and am loving teaching STEM this year amongst the other core subjects. Before becoming a teacher, I was a paediatric nurse for 10 years and spent 5 of those years working at Very Special Kids. When that chapter closed, I pursued education as a mature age student and began teaching in Year 3 at a Christian school in Mackay, Queensland. I discovered a particular passion for teaching reading and literacy and have recently completed my Master of Information Management to continue my own learning journey.

My husband and I are both passionate about championing Christian education. In his role at Eastern College, and in mine here at MCC, we are deeply committed to Christian education and don’t take lightly the freedom we have to teach and learn in a Christian context. Whether it be our own kids (we are also parents at MCC), our students or kids church on a Sunday, we’re all in, all the time, for helping young people towards a daily revelation of Jesus and His love for them.

I’m in my third year of teaching, but I like to pretend that I’m in my first year due to my first two years being throughout a pandemic. Having to build my experience with teaching full time from home over Zoom was tough, however, throughout the hardship of Covid, God taught me patience and trust, and He also gave me strength to keep going despite it all.

I have my degree in Primary Education and have most experience with the Year 5 and 6. However, this year I am so lucky to be working within a community like Melton Christian College that support me and have created a space for my continuous learning in the Digital Technology classroom, where I get to work with all primary levels. It is quite different, but I enjoy it very much!

I love working with like-minded, God-loving individuals, who can pray with me, laugh with me, and support me throughout my teaching journey. It is a great privilege to be part of MCC where I can speak freely of Jesus and His love for all of us.

Having completed my Bachelor of Education last year, I feel very lucky that MCC is the school that I have become a part of. Having gone to a Christian school myself, I was very keen to be teaching in an environment that was centred around Christ, and to be working alongside like-minded people and Melton is just that!

This year I am the homeroom teacher of Prep D, and so far, I have been thoroughly enjoying the experience, working alongside the fabulous and encouraging teachers and aides, and I am absolutely loving getting to know and teach my adorable students. I am passionate about the growth of the whole child, and I love being a homeroom teacher getting the opportunity to teach a range of subjects and guide the students in their very first year of school and watch them develop. I am keen to ensure my classroom is a space where students can grow academically, socially, emotionally, and importantly spiritually as they begin to hear and learn about God, for many of them for the very first time.

It has been such a blessing to be working at Melton, the teachers and families have been so welcoming, and I am very thankful that this is where God has brought me to begin my teaching career.
