What Fruit Are We Producing?
Are you crazy about summer fruits?
Mangos, peaches, apricots, and nectarines. Oh my goodness, nectarines! Nectarines … they are just like peaches, sweet peaches but without the peachy fuzz. That is amazing. Summer fruit reminds us that summer keeps on keeping on, even though summer holidays have drawn to a close.
The one great thing about summer holidays ending is that school is back… and what a joy that is, because during the summer break, the clasrooms sit empty — they are just buildings: buildings, buildings, buildings full of empty rooms. But the moment the children return, everything comes alive again. Their energy, their laughter, their curiosity… our students turn the campuses back into communities. Once more, children and teachers bring the hum, the hustle, the bustle and the buzz. They move through the school like bees in a flowering fruit tree. Which brings me back to fruit.
Summer fruit is a lovely reminder of the goodness we are called by Christ to reflect. However, summer fruit doesn’t last forever. Fresh fruit stands in stark contrast to horrid fruit that has been left to spoil. Hopefully, that image encourages us to consider the ‘fruit’ we produce in the way we speak, act, and treat one another because there is a particular kind of fruit we pray will shape our families, our classrooms, our playgrounds, our lunchrooms, our study spaces, our reception area — every corner of our College, onsite and online. In reality, we hope it fills our whole lives. The Christian Bible, which is our guidebook for living, calls this fruit the Fruit of the Spirit
Here is the list of these spiritual fruits: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-control.
As we begin 2026, let’s work together to cultivate these lasting, lifelong fruits in our school and in our homes.
