Background Information

Melton Christian Centre is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. It is the financial entity owning both Melton Christian College, and Melton Christian Church. The Board of Directors of Melton Christian Centre are therefore the Directors of the College, and also of the Church.

The College Council is a sub-committee appointed by the Board of Directors for the purpose of governance of the College. Thus, the College Council, although they are not formal trustees, are empowered by the Directors to speak and act as representing the Board of Directors in matters of governance of the College.

The College Council consists of: Directors and College Council members as appointed by the directors. The current principal along with the current Head of Operations and Head of Finance and Risk for the College participate as ex-officio members. The Chief Executive Officer of the College is the Principal, who is responsible for the operation of the College, and who is supported by the Head of Operations and the Head of Finance and Risk.

How Parents Support the College Council

Parents of children at the College are to endorse and support the College Council by supporting the College ethos, values, culture and policies. This includes accepting the following doctrines as intrinsic to the Christian education provided by the College: (a) the Christian Bible, (b) the Apostles Creed; and (c) the traditions of the Christian Church. Parents who enrol their children at the College must agree to act and speak as partners of the College in support of its ethos, identity, purposes, practices and policies; see also, “Enrolment Policy”.

Doctrinal and Definitional Statements

  • The Christian Bible – The Christian Bible is the College’s fundamental source of doctrine.
  • Melton Christian College Statement of Faith – This Statement of Faith is part of the fundamental doctrine of the College. It is included below.
  • The Apostles Creed – This ancient and deeply traditional statement of belief is part of the fundamental doctrine of the College. It is included below.
  • Melton Christian College Core Values

Core values

The Apostles Creed

This statement of faith forms part of the fundamental doctrine of the College:

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Amen.

(Common Worship 2000) (*catholic meaning universal in extent, of interest to all, pertaining to the whole Christian body of believers)

‘Theological Foundations’ – Background Explanation

The ‘Theological Foundations’ is a statement summarising the College’s doctrine relating to the relationship between Christian schooling, and the home. It is included below. The College’s foundation is the Christian faith as expressed in the Christian Bible, therefore College community, core values, communal identity, ethos, educative programs, curriculum, and fundamental identity are embedded in the Christian faith and its expressions.

Families not of Christian faith may apply for enrolment. This enrolment must be on the understanding that they accept and endorse the College’s expressions of Christian faith. Melton Christian College is not a multi-faith school, it is a single-faith, faith-based school.

Melton Christian College: ‘Theological Foundations’

Melton Christian College exists to support and assist parents in the God-given task of educating their children. Parents should raise and train their children to recognise, honour, and respect that all of life and the world belongs to God. The school must not be viewed as a substitute for this parental role. It is our desire that the home, the Church and the school all reinforce the same values, so there is no conflict of ideas in the child’s mind.

Statement of Faith

We believe in:
1. The divine inspiration of the Scriptures
2. The Sovereign Triune God
3. The essential and eternal deity and sinless humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ
4. His conception by the operation of the Holy Spirit, and His subsequent virgin birth
5. His suffering and His substitutionary death for humanity
6. His resurrection from the dead and ascension to the right hand of God the Father
7. Salvation through faith, only obtainable through a new birth “experience”
8. The visible second coming to earth of the Lord Jesus Christ for His Church
9. The Kingdom of God, made up of all born-again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, regardless of denominational affiliation
10. A Christian life in conformity to the standards expressed in the Christian Bible
